Specialty Wreck

Wreck-diveThe lure of exploring sunken vessels, airplanes and automobiles is something most divers can't resist. The Wreck Diver Specialty course introduces you to wreck diving and helps you develop the skills and knowledge necessary for safe and fun wreck diving.

Here in Koh Tao we have a varied selection of wrecks ranging from old wooden fishing boats to Second World War Submarines & Battleships. In 2010 we had our first official wreck when the Trident was purposely sunk just south of Shark Island in about 30 meters depth & in 2011 the Navy were good enough to sink one of their own retired battleships in about 20 meters depth quite literally right on our doorstep here at Big Blue.

What's involved?

Being a wreck diver means being organised, and because wreck diving often results in diving in poor or no visibility you will need to plan your dives down to the very last detail by reviewing emergency procedures, techniques, problems & the hazards that can occur in wreck diving. You will become familiar in the preparation & use of lights, air supplies, & the special equipment like penetration lines & wreck reels.

What do I need to start?
Wreck penetration-training dives are limited to within the light zone and within 40 metres/130 feet from the surface, vertical and horizontal distance included. If the wreck used for training is located in deep water (over 18 metres/60 feet), the Deep Diver rating is recommended as a prerequisite for the Wreck Diver program.

Big Blue provides all equipment, boat trips, manuals, etc., for the duration of the course.

Am I fit to dive?
Read this medical questionnaire, if you can answer yes to any of the questions, you may require medical clearance to enroll on a diving course. Email us if you want more information.
