We’ve all been there. You’re down on a dive, looking at something really neat, and suddenly you have to leave because your no-decompression limit time is running out. Don’t let that happen to you again! It’s time to get your Nitrox Specialty certification.

The Nitrox Specialty course is an essential certification for all serious divers. It will allow you to extend the time you can spend at depth and reduce your surface interval time. It’s perfect for people who want to get the most out of a scuba trip where the itinerary includes several deep dives a day, or for people looking to check a liveaboard dive trip off their bucket list.

The Nitrox Specialty course will teach you how to safely plan and dive with enriched air mixtures of up to 40% oxygen. You’ll learn how to analyze a tank of Nitrox gas and why it’s important to do that before each Nitrox dive. Scuba diving with enriched air can increase your no-decompression limits, increase your safety, and reduce the required length of your surface intervals when compared to air.

Our Nitrox Specialty course starts every day at 9 am and is usually completed by lunchtime. There is no diving required to complete this course.

You will then be able to fun-dive with us on Nitrox for 2400B per 2 dives 🙂

You must be an Open Water Diver to become a Nitrox Specialty diver.

Don’t forget! Because of the extra nitrogen your body builds up while scuba diving, you cannot fly within 24hrs of your last dive.

Are you fit to dive?

FAQs

What is Nitrox, and how does it differ from regular air? +

Nitrox is enriched air with a higher percentage of oxygen (typically 32% or 36%) than regular air, which contains 21%. The increased oxygen allows for longer no-decompression limits, especially at moderate depths.

What are the benefits of diving with Nitrox? +

Nitrox allows divers to extend their bottom time at certain depths by reducing nitrogen intake. This can also help reduce fatigue after dives, especially during repetitive dives.

Do I need special equipment to dive with Nitrox? +

Most modern dive gear is compatible with Nitrox, but tanks need to be properly cleaned and labeled for Nitrox use. Additionally, you will need an oxygen-compatible dive computer to track your oxygen exposure.

Is there a depth limit when diving with Nitrox? +

Yes, because of the higher oxygen content, Nitrox divers need to be cautious about oxygen toxicity. Depth limits vary depending on the mix but typically range from 30-40 meters.

Is there a prerequisite for taking the SSI Nitrox Specialty? +

The only prerequisite for the SSI Nitrox Specialty is an Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent). No advanced certification or additional dives are required to take the course.
