Underwater photography is captivating and challenging. It can be challenging to artistically capture mesmerizing underwater scenes and challenging intellectually to identify everything you see underwater. And it’s rapidly becoming a popular extension to the sport of scuba diving, and why our Photography Specialty is so popular.
The Photography Specialty course will allow you to learn the basics of underwater photography and create a small portfolio that you can use to further your hobby. You’ll also get the chance to improve your buoyancy control and general dive skills as you practice with your camera underwater.
The Photography Specialty course takes just one day to complete and includes two dives.
The course includes one morning session on land with our videographer. You’ll learn how to prepare the camera and housing for diving, you’ll discuss buoyancy control techniques and camera techniques that work well underwater. Then in the afternoon, you’ll go out for two dives with your instructor and your camera. After diving, you’ll go back to land and work through post-production techniques.
To enrol in the Photography Specialty course you must be at least 10 years old and have your Open Water certification. Ideally, you should have your own camera. But you can also rent one from Big Blue Diving.
Don’t forget! Because of the extra nitrogen your body builds up while scuba diving, you cannot fly within 24hrs of your last dive.
