Become a bubble maker! Scuba diving isn’t a sport just for “grown-ups” anymore. Kids can do it too! And who knows, maybe an early start at scuba diving on an Explorer course will spark a new life-long hobby.

The Explorer Course is the very first chance for kids to try out scuba gear and take their first breaths underwater. It gives kids a chance to use scuba gear (mask, fins, tank, BCD with low-pressure inflator, regulator, and submersible pressure gauge) in a confined-water environment and, well, make bubbles underwater. During this very basic introduction to scuba, children learn about scuba equipment and how it works. Afterwards, they get a chance to try it out. They learn to equalize, clear a regulator and mask, and to breathe efficiently, all while an instructor supervises.

All dives for the Explorer Course are conducted in shallow, confined-water conditions in the ocean under the strict supervision of an experienced instructor.

A child must be 8 years old or older. Kids must be comfortable in the water, but no prior experience is necessary. Parental approval is required.

The Explorer Course only includes one dive, but the afternoon boat goes out for two dives. Most kids choose to do a second dive with their instructor instead of sitting on the boat.  If your kid chooses to do this second dive, there will be a standard charge of 1000 baht for the dive.

Big Blue Diving will provide all equipment, boat trips, etc., for the duration of the course.

Don’t forget! Because of the extra nitrogen your body builds up while scuba diving, you cannot fly within 24hrs of your last dive.

What’s next?

When your child becomes 10 they can get their Junior Open Water License. This course is exactly the same as the normal Open Water Course with the only restriction being on the last day of the course where an Open Water student will dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters a Junior Open Water student is restricted to a maximum depth of 12 meters. When they reach 15 years of age they are automatically upgraded to an Open Water license at no additional charge or training.
