Sea turtles are among the ocean’s most iconic and captivating creatures, and our Big Blue Sea Turtle Ecology Course offers the perfect opportunity to learn more about these remarkable animals. Admired for their graceful movements and ancient lineage, sea turtles have held cultural significance for societies around the world for centuries.
Despite their beauty and importance, sea turtles face numerous threats. Many species have been impacted by hunting, illegal trade, egg poaching, habitat loss, pollution, climate change, entanglement in fishing gear, and accidental capture in fisheries. With only seven species found worldwide, marine turtles inhabit a wide range of ocean environments, each with unique behaviours, life histories, and ecological roles.
Sea turtles play a crucial part in maintaining healthy marine and coastal ecosystems. They help sustain seagrass meadows through grazing, support the balance of marine food webs, and contribute valuable nutrients to nesting beaches, benefiting a variety of coastal wildlife.
If you’re passionate about sea turtles, our Sea Turtle Ecology Specialty Program is the ideal way to deepen your understanding. Guided by our resident turtle expert, you’ll learn how to identify different sea turtle species, explore their evolutionary history, understand their role in marine ecosystems, and examine the challenges they face in the modern world.
This classroom-based course is designed for anyone interested in marine conservation and turtle ecology. For those who would like to combine their learning with time in the water, additional dives can be added at our standard fun diving rates. Join us as we head out in search of these incredible ocean ambassadors and experience firsthand the habitats they call home.
Don’t forget! Because of the extra nitrogen your body builds up while scuba diving, you cannot fly within 24hrs of your last dive.
