TDI Advanced Nitrox

Are you looking to expand your dive time? Maybe you want to start building the foundations for a career in technical diving? Or you’re a scientist or photographer looking to stay in the water a little longer? Then the TDI Advanced Nitrox course is for you.

The TDI Advanced Nitrox course certifies divers to use enriched air nitrox from EAN21 through to EAN100 within your current certification level to a maximum depth of 40 meters/120 feet, during dives that do not require staged decompression.

TheTDI Advanced Nitrox course is conducted over the course of three days and involves a minimum of four dives. You must be 18 years old, with a Nitrox certification and proof of 25 logged dives to register for the course.

Advanced Nitrox picks up where the Nitrox course leaves off and offers a more in-depth look at diving with Nitrox. You’ll expand on the physics and physiology relating to diving with gas mixes containing more than 40% oxygen, review gas planning, dive tables, dive computers, oxygen limitations, and nitrogen limitations. You’ll also review equipment considerations, cylinder labelling, analyzing nitrox mixtures, gas blending procedures, and oxygen service ratings to using gases with more than 40% oxygen.

Advanced Nitrox, often taught in conjunction with the Decompression Procedures course, is the foundation of your technical diving career. It is also necessary learning for those that wish to move on to CCR diving.

Big Blue Tech will provide all equipment and materials necessary to complete the TDI Advanced Nitrox course. However, at this level, divers are expected to have a primary mask, computer, and technical wrist slates. These items can also be rented for the entire course at a minimal cost.

You must be at least 18 years old, have a minimum certification level of TDI Nitrox diver (or equivalent), and have proof of at least 25 logged open water dives to register for the Advanced Nitrox course.

The TDI Advanced Nitrox course schedule usually looks like this.

Day 1

8:30-12:00

You’ll meet your instructor in our restaurant and begin with some course academics. You’ll also start to go through the special equipment considerations for advanced nitrox diving.

12:45-17:00

You’ll spend the afternoon in our training pool practising and perfecting the skills you’ll need for advanced nitrox diving.

Day 2

9:00-12:00

You’ll finish up with the course academics on the morning of day two and take your course exam. Once you pass, you’ll be ready to try your new skills out on some open water dives.

12:45-17:00

In the afternoon, you’ll head out on our big boat and you’ll do dives one and two for the course at one of the more challenging dive sites around the island.

Day 3

9:00-12:00

You’ll spend the morning of the last day going through some detailed dive planning with your instructor. You’ll plan your dives for the afternoon.

12:45-17:00

You’ll be out diving again on the afternoon of the last day. You’ll execute the dive plan you spent the morning putting together.

Don’t forget! Because of the extra nitrogen your body builds up while scuba diving, you cannot fly within 24hrs of your last dive.
