Obviously, Christmas on Koh Tao this year is going to be very different from any other year. But regardless of what’s happening around the world, if you are thinking about Christmas on Koh Tao – it is a great place to be! The weather is usually good at Christmas, the water is 28 degrees or higher, and there is always a good vibe about Koh Tao, especially at Christmas time.
As you are most likely aware there is a large ex-pat community living on Koh Tao who all love nothing more than getting together and celebrating for any reason, and what better reason is there than celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, with a few buckets, a few beers, a great feed and a spot of dancing!
Here at Big Blue Diving, we bring in the Christmas season with a staff party on the 22nd of December with a buffet dinner, a free bar, and then an awards ceremony for those that have stood out among the crowd during the year. Bearing in mind there was no crowd this year, we’re not sure we will be hosting an awards ceremony and might just get in a live band and watch the monkeys dance! The 23rd of December is usually a day of reflection whereby we either stick our heads in a cold bucket of water or a bag of sand before heading out for our afternoon dives. The 24th is Secret Santa Day! We lay on another buffet feast for everyone, guests and staff, and show a video compilation of the year’s events. At some point during the proceedings, Santa usually pops in with sacks full of presents to give to everyone.
On Christmas Day, after our days diving, we then lay on a Christmas banquet for everyone. Roast Turkey, a roast pig, and a forest full of roast veggies. It’s a great occasion full of love for each other, friendliness, welcoming all our guests to party with us and hopefully spread the Christmas cheer to everyone near and far.
So as you can tell it’s a great time and Koh Tao is definitely a great place to be to celebrate Christmas. Hopefully, we will see you here. For those of you in Thailand looking for a place to escape to, and for those of you not in Thailand and ‘locked down’, hopefully, you can be with us next year!
