Dive boats on Koh Tao

There are a few different types of dive boats on Koh Tao. You can either go by longtail, by speedboat, old converted fishing boat, or the newer purpose built dive boats.

Which dive boats on Koh Tao are the best?

All the dive boats on Koh Tao have their own charms, advantages & disadvantages. For example a longtail, or speedboat, can all be pretty noisy & difficult to socialize with other divers on the boat and way more tricky to climb back on board after your dive, but they are probably quicker to the dive sites. Whereas the more regularly used Dive boats on Koh Tao, though slower, are a lot more conducive to having a fun atmosphere and you are way less likely to get seasick on a bigger boat, which can be a huge factor if it is a little choppy out there.

In our experience & we’ve been through them all, we recommend the proper Dive boats and by that we are referring to the bigger boats which are considerably more roomier than the old converted fishing boats. The bigger boats will all have a downstairs dive deck and then above that will be a large shaded socializing area with tables and benches and an area for tea, coffee and snacks etc and then there will also be a top deck dedicated to sun worshipers.

These boats are better suited for all types of weather conditions as well and many of them have their own compressors on board which is great as there’s no scuba tank loading and off loading to be stuck waiting around for. Much better customer service!

And if you are setting out on a Full Day Trip to Sail Rock you will be so much happier on a big boat. A big boat will lay on a proper Thai buffet lunch for you and tables and benches from where you can sit & eat and socialize with other divers on the boat, as opposed to being handed out ready made sandwiches and a selection of fruits & biscuits.
