How long does the Advanced Adventurer Course take?

Embarking on the Advanced Adventurer Course is a natural progression after completing your Open Water Diver Course. This course, specifically tailored for enhancing your scuba skills, boosts your confidence and comfort level underwater. It serves as an ideal avenue to explore more of Koh Tao’s stunning dive sites while still benefiting from the guidance of an experienced instructor.

The Two Core Dives:

The Advanced Course comprises of five dives done over 2 days at various captivating Koh Tao locations. Among these, two dives, the Navigation Dive and the Deep Dive, are mandatory components.

The Navigation Dive focuses on honing your underwater navigation skills using both a compass and natural techniques. Your instructor will guide you in mastering direction, distance, and overcoming common navigational challenges.

In the Deep Dive, you’ll venture beyond the initial Open Water certification limits (usually between 18-30 meters or 60-100 feet). Here, you’ll learn about the considerations and risks associated with deep diving, including nitrogen narcosis and air consumption, ensuring you can plan and execute safe deep dives.

Your Three Adventure Dives:

  1. Buoyancy Control Dive: Master the art of scuba diving by refining your buoyancy control, a crucial skill for safety and environmental preservation.
  2. Wreck Dive: Explore sunken shipwrecks or artificial reef structures while respecting boundaries and marine life.
  3. Fish ID Dive: Learn to identify diverse fish species and marine life, enhancing your underwater experience.
  4. Nitrox Dive: Dive with enriched air nitrox, a gas mixture with higher oxygen levels, allowing for extended bottom times.
  5. Night Dive: Witness the captivating nocturnal marine life and learn specialized techniques for diving in low-light conditions.

This skills-based course requires no exam, and the majority of coursework is completed while out scuba diving. To enroll, you need to be a certified Open Water Diver from any recognized scuba diving agency, with the flexibility to switch between certification agencies.

Big Blue Diving Koh Tao offers Advanced Diving Courses through SSI (Advanced Adventurer), providing digital and free course materials. All equipment and dive boat trips for the course duration are provided by the dive center.

The Advanced Course schedule spans two days, involving informative sessions at the dive center and exciting dive expeditions around Koh Tao. The course concludes with a memorable night dive, showcasing the underwater world’s transformation after sunset and earning you the Advanced Diving Course certification.
