Over recent years scuba diving on Koh Tao has overtaken the Great Barrier Reef, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean as the most popular place in the world to dive.
Koh Tao is a hugely popular island destination for all levels and disciplines of scuba diver training, with excellent conditions throughout the year and plenty to do outside and inside the water too.
Koh Tao forms part of the Chumphon Archipelago on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand. It is a tropical paradise with white sand beaches fringed with palm trees, rugged cliffs, and stunning sunsets. Koh Tao’s underwater scenery is just as spectacular with coral encrusted rock pinnacles, vibrant reefs, and some great shipwrecks.
When you go scuba diving on Koh Tao you get the opportunity to see passing pelagic including whale sharks, and Sail Fish and when you’re not looking out to the blue you’ll be mesmerized by the vast amounts of colorful reef fish all around you.
Koh Tao has a little over 25 dive sites to explore from calm shallow bays, coral gardens, limestone formations, artificial reefs, reef nursery’s and a couple of wrecks too. These sites are dotted around the island and are accessible by boat only. The furthest away is no more than a 45-minute boat trip away.
At Big Blue Diving we operate a two dive trip in the morning or if you would rather a lie in then take 2 dives in the afternoon with us instead. Diving is year-round as there is always somewhere sheltered to hide from the wind. The monsoon hits around November time, and seas get choppy and visibility drops. Calm, bright waters are the norm and provide stable conditions for first-timers in the water or anyone wanting to learn a new skill, at the cheapest place in the world to Scuba Dive.
