With its crystal-clear turquoise waters, vibrant coral reefs, and diverse marine life, this idyllic island beckons avid scuba enthusiasts from all corners of the globe. Today, we will unveil the top five dive sites on Koh Tao, showcasing the breathtaking underwater wonders that await divers.

Chumphon Pinnacle:

Situated to the northwest of Koh Tao, Chumphon Pinnacle is a must-visit dive site that never fails to captivate divers. This submerged granite pinnacle rises from the depths, offering an awe-inspiring underwater landscape teeming with marine life. Divers can expect encounters with large schools of barracudas, trevallies, and snappers gracefully swimming through the crystal-clear waters. The pinnacle’s vibrant coral formations are home to an array of colorful reef fish, including angel fish, parrotfish, and butterfly fish. Moreover, lucky divers may even spot whale sharks or leopard sharks gliding majestically in this underwater paradise.

Sail Rock:

Sail Rock, located northeast of Koh Tao, is widely regarded as one of Thailand’s best dive sites. Rising above the surface like a solitary monolith, this granite pinnacle descends into the depths, creating an exhilarating underwater adventure. As divers descend, they are greeted by an abundance of marine life, including schools of yellowtail barracudas, batfish, and fusiliers. The highlight of this site is the “Chimney,” a vertical swim-through crevice that provides a mesmerizing experience as beams of sunlight pierce through, illuminating the waters. With the possibility of whale shark sightings and the occasional presence of giant groupers, Sail Rock promises an unforgettable dive experience.

Southwest Pinnacle:

Located south of Koh Tao, the Southwest Pinnacle offers a magical dive experience with its unique topography and diverse marine ecosystem. This pinnacle showcases an array of soft and hard corals, creating an exquisite backdrop for encounters with anemone fish, moray eels, and nudibranchs. The site’s dramatic underwater terrain, featuring a series of rocky formations and swim-throughs, provides divers with exciting exploration opportunities. Keep an eye out for the resident schools of batfish and snappers, as well as occasional visits from majestic whale sharks and eagle rays.

HTMS Sattakut Wreck:

For wreck diving enthusiasts, the HTMS Sattakut is a must-see attraction. This former Thai Navy vessel was intentionally sunk to create an artificial reef, and it now rests at a depth of 30 meters. Divers can explore the expansive wreck, discovering hidden nooks, crannies, and chambers teeming with marine life. Schools of barracudas, jacks, and groupers patrol the area, while colorful soft corals and sponges adorn the ship’s exterior. The HTMS Sattakut offers a fascinating glimpse into the underwater world of artificial reefs and provides an unforgettable adventure for divers of all levels, most notably our Tech Team at Big Blue Tech.

Shark Island:

Deceivingly named this dive site is called Shark Island because it resembles a  sharks fin, not because of there being lots of sharks there. Located southeast of Koh Tao, this dive site boasts vibrant coral formations, dramatic underwater rock formations, and an abundance of marine life.
