The Open Water Diver Course consists of a day spent in the swimming pool mastering skills. Then 2 days out at sea diving four times at four different dive sites.
On the first day of your Open Water Diver Course…
…we’ll jump into the shallow end of the pool here at Big Blue Diving Resort and we practice the scuba skills you need to master on the Open Water Diver Course in a depth shallow enough for you to stand up in if you need to ask a question or don’t feel comfortable. As we progress through the session we will eventually be in the deep end where you can really experience the thrill of diving, being neutrally buoyant and swimming around with all this kit on!
On the second day, we’re diving our first 2 dives in the sea…
… we are going to take you to one of the most beautiful islands in the world, Koh Nang Yuan, where we are going to take you down to a depth of 12 meters at 2 different dive sites around Nang Yuan, called Japanese Gardens and Twins. Here we are going to dive around the dive sites looking at fish and coral and getting used to the idea of being at depth with a scuba unit on. The maximum depth of the ground will be 12 meters so there’s no sinking into oblivion but really getting to grips with mastering your buoyancy control. We’re also going to have a crack at doing some of the scuba skills you did the day before in the pool, but this time in the sea so you really understand why you need to know these skills when you dive.
It’s the final day of your 3-day Open Water Course…
…we’re going to take you to Koh Tao’s best known and in my opinion very best dive site. Chumphon Pinnacle is a submerged dive site about 40 minutes north of Koh Tao. It is a series of pinnacles that start about 12 meters below the surface and drop down to a maximum depth of around 30 meters at the base of the pinnacle. It’s a spectacular dive site due to all the marine life we get there. Big schools of batfish are resident here, as are the walls of barracuda, the tornado of trevally, and the streams of yellow fusiliers. What you see on this dive site is real diving! Great visibility, lots of action, and all you are expected to do here is scuba dive and look at fish. Keep your eyes out in the blue for an arriving whale shark!
Our second dive site on your 3rd day of scuba diving and your 4th dive in the sea will be at a shallower dive site but re-known for the life it hosts. White Rock is one of Koh Tao’s best training dive sites. We often get turtles here, rays and eels as well as the legendary triggerfish. Any scuba skills we haven’t completed yet we will do here.
SO 1 dive in the pool, 2 dives around Nang Yuan Island and 2 dives at Koh Tao’s legendary dive sites will definitely hold you in good stead for your further adventures in diving.
Course price is just 11,000Bt and the license lasts for a lifetime.
