You will be please to know that the cost of dive courses on Koh Tao is considerably cheaper than anywhere else in the world! Which is probably why Koh Tao, renowned for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, has become such an attraction for diving enthusiasts. Whether you’re a beginner looking to embark on an Open Water course or an experienced diver seeking some thrilling fun dives or even professional development by doing your Divemaster course, Koh Tao offers a plethora of options. However, before embarking on your diving adventure, it’s essential to understand the costs involved. So I’ve done some research into the expenses associated with dive courses on Koh Tao, providing insights into the Open Water course, Fun Diving, and the Divemaster Course.
Open Water Courses on Koh Tao:

For beginners, an Open Water course is the first step toward becoming a certified diver and on Koh Tao you can get it for as cheap as 9900Bt or as much as 15,000Bt.
The cost of an Open Water course on Koh Tao varies depending on several factors, such as the dive center, instructor expertise, course duration, and additional perks included. The cheapest bare bones, inexperienced Instructors, oldest equipment, and shared boat space with other Dive centers, the price will set you back about 9,900Bt. Not exactly what I’d be looking for when learning an extreme sport like scuba diving. The recommended Dive centers on Koh Tao hold a gentleman’s agreement to sell their courses at the same price so most centers offer the Open Water Course at 11,000 Bt. This will cover essential aspects, including theory sessions, confined water training, open water dives, dive equipment rental, certification fees, and study materials. Some dive centers may also include accommodation, meals, and transportation as part of a package deal, leading to slightly higher costs.
Fun Diving on Koh Tao:
Once you’ve obtained your Open Water certification, you can explore the wonders of Koh Tao’s underwater world through fun dives. Fun diving allows certified divers to experience the marine ecosystem, witness breathtaking coral reefs, and encounter fascinating marine species. The cost of fun diving on Koh Tao can vary based on factors such as the number of dives, dive center reputation, equipment rental, and additional services. Typically, fun dives range from 800Bt to 1000Bt per dive. Dive centers often offer discounted rates for multiple dives, such as dive packages comprising five, ten, or even more dives. These packages can provide better value for money, allowing divers to make the most of their underwater experience. A full day trip to Sail Rock will cost you more as the dive site is further away from Koh Tao than most sites. 2 Dives & lunch will cost you around 2500Bt but the more attractive 3 dive package including breakfast, lunch and snacks will set you back 3800Bt.
Divemaster Course on Koh Tao:

For passionate divers looking to take their skills to a professional level, the Divemaster Course is a popular choice. This course equips divers with the necessary knowledge and skills to guide and assist other divers during dive trips. The cost of a Divemaster Course on Koh Tao can vary significantly due to factors like dive center reputation, instructor expertise, course duration, additional perks, and accommodation options. On average, the Divemaster course will cost you about 30,000 Bt to 40,000 Bt including materials, but not necessarily all of your equipment, like torches, compasses and Dive computers. The difference in price will often depend on the duration of your Divemaster Course which can span several weeks or even months, (allowing aspiring divemasters to gain extensive practical experience), or a restriction on the amount of dives you can do as part of the Divemaster Course. The course fees generally cover educational materials, training sessions, dive equipment rental, certification fees, and practical experience.
Koh Tao offers an array of dive courses catering to different levels of experience and interests. Whether you’re a beginner taking an Open Water course or an advanced diver seeking the thrill of fun dives or professional growth through a Divemaster Course, this tropical island has something for everyone. It’s important to consider the costs associated with each course, including the Open Water course, fun diving, and the Divemaster Course. By understanding these costs, you can plan your diving adventure on Koh Tao more effectively and make the most of the incredible underwater experiences that await you.
