Koh Tao often gets together as a community to clean up rubbish and keep our island looking its best 🙌🌴
On Saturday we all met at Big Blue to grab gloves and bin bags, and to split up into super rubbish collecting teams. One team hit Sairee Beach while the other tackled the rubbish that’s been collecting on the sides of the main road.
We had 24 people turn out to help us in preserving paradise and those 24 people collected roughly 500kgs of waste. What an amazing effort 💪!

Why are land cleanups important?
It is important to conduct land cleanups because it can be one of the easiest and most effective ways to prevent trash from entering the oceans in the first place. From roadside drainage to tides cleaning the beaches, we must be careful of how we discard our trash. On any given day, there can be approximately 5.4 trillion pieces of rubbish swirling around in the oceans, the majority of that coming from some kind of land runoff.
Here at Big Blue at our Conservation department, we organize island clean-ups every Wednesday & Saturday at 9am, focusing on areas around the island that could do with a bit of spit and polish!
