Heading out on Friday to Sail Rock, regarded as the best dive site around Koh Tao. We’re heading out to this legendary site first and then the second dive will be at the fishermans site, Samran Pinnacle.
Sail Rock
Sail Rock is a huge underwater pinnacle with only the tip sticking out of the water. With currents swirling around the rock that drops down to 40 meters you can expect an explosion of marine life. It is easy to navigate underwater, as you can just circle around the rock slowly making your way up. Sometimes the current can be really strong on one side while you have nothing on the other. The same goes for the visibility, it might change around every corner. There is a lovely swim-through with the entrance at about 18m, exit is at 6m.
Samran Pinnacle
Samran Pinnacle is a submerged set of three rocky pinnacles located between Sail Rock and Koh Tao and rises from the ocean floor at 30 meters up to a minimum depth of 13 meters. The rocks are covered in soft corals, sponges and a wealth of colorful anemones. Just off the rocks hanging in the mild to strong currents you will find large groupers, great barracuda and shoals of big eye jacks.
