The Basic Diver, also known as Try Diving, is a 1 day scuba diving experience designed for people who are interested to see what diving is about and whether it is something they would like to do more of.
Scuba diving, like golf, isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. You will never catch me out on a golf course. I can’t stand the game. Likewise with scuba diving, believe it or not, some people actually really don’t like scuba diving. To them we say be gone! We don’t need that kind of negativity on our lives!
So the idea then of the Basic Diver / Try diver ‘experience’ is to introduce you to the equipment what it does and how it works and what you will use it for. Then to put it into practice by using it in shallow water confined like conditions in an area in which you can stand up if you need to ask a question or have a problem performing the skill. Once you have performed the assorted skills confidently your Instructor will then descend with you to a maximum depth of 12 meters to look at fish and coral and have a bit of fun with buoyancy control. You can expect to see a variety of reef fish, an assortment of different types of hard and soft corals and hopefully come face to face with a few of our more celebrated residents of Koh Tao namely the moray ell the blue spotted stingray or even the Titan Triggerfish.

The first reason is that we take our time with you so you don’t feel rushed and stressed when it comes to putting on your equipment and jumping in the water. We arrange to meet you at 9am in our dive center. You will meet your Instructor and then we’ll all go grab a seat in the restaurant and have a cup of coffee or a fresh coconut, and have a chat about what it is you are going to do today. We’ll chat about your equipment what it does, how and why we are going to use it before getting into our boardies & bikinis for your first attempt at scuba diving in the pool with us.
By performing the necessary skills in the pool rather than the sea that means when we get to the dive site we can get straight on with the diving and have more time to see the fish and coral on the dive site. It’s a win win! You get more time to learn and get comfortable in the pool and you get to spend more time on the actual dive sites themselves as we won’t have to ponce around swimming into shore to find an area you can stand up in.
