We have always been proud of the sense of community that we have been able to foster over the years between our staff and students worldwide. Once you’ve been diving with us, or have worked with us, you’re family for life. And when a family member is in need, the rest of the family steps up to help. That’s why we are so proud of our Big Blue Community who have all rallied together, again, to raise money to help a local Burmese girl who was badly, badly burned in a freak accident at her home.
Little Chu Chu, a vivacious 4-year-old girl from Burma, wanted to surprise her dad by surprising him when he got home from work. She hid behind a cauldron of water that was boiling over an open fire. As she jumped out to surprise him, she accidentally knocked over the boiling water. It spilt directly on her and has caused third-degree burns on her body. She was rushed to the hospital in enormous pain.
We put a post out on our Facebook community board and were inundated with donations from around the world – including Europe, America, Australia and Bangkok. We managed to collect just under 15,000THB to help pay for her rising medical costs.
It is amazing what you can do when you put your hearts together!
We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who donated. Thanks also to Claire from the Koh Tao International School who’s done so much already for Chu Chu and her family. Special thanks, as always, to the Koh Tao Island Rescue Group – Sonia Scott, and our own Wilma ‘Maxi’ Ruhr, who is a trained ER nurse back in Germany -m both of whom have been donating their time and medical experience to help out where possible.
If you wish to donate to dear little Chu Chu you still can. Please get in touch with us and we’ll tell you how to submit your donation.
Big Blue Diving – helping people and developing an amazing community since 1991!
