You are not allowed to go scuba dive in Thailand without a certification, unless you are under the guidance of an Instructor! Scuba diving requires proper training and a certification to ensure your safety and the safety of others. Most reputable dive centers and operators in Thailand will ask for proof of certification before allowing you to participate in dives.

The 1 Day Try Dive
It is possible to dive in Thailand without a certification by enrolling as a Basic Diver on a Try dive. The Basic Diver course is an introductory program designed for beginners who want to experience scuba diving but may not have the time or commitment to complete a full certification course. It provides a basic understanding of scuba diving principles, equipment, and techniques and typically involves a short classroom session, then pool or confined water training, and one or two open water dives.
Get your Scuba Diving License
If you do want to get your scuba diving license you need to complete your Open Water Course. This is a comprehensive scuba diving certification course and is the most popular entry-level certification program worldwide. It provides in-depth knowledge and skills necessary for safe and independent recreational scuba diving and consists of a combination of academic study, confined water training (typically in a pool), and 4 open water dives. It also covers topics such as dive planning, equipment use, dive physics and physiology, underwater communication, and dive safety.
Do you need a Refresher?
If you already have a scuba diving certification but haven’t dived for a long time, (over a year), it is advisable to take a refresher course before diving again. The Scuba Schools International (SSI) offers a program called “Scuba Skills Update” specifically designed for certified divers who want to refresh their knowledge and skills after a period of inactivity.
