Doing your Scuba Instructor Internship whether you’ve completed your SSI Instructor Course on Koh Tao or elsewhere, it’s a good idea to get some teaching practice in, under the guidance of an experienced professional, to build up your confidence as well as your certification count. So if you are ready to get some hands-on experience teaching real students under the mentorship of some of the most experienced professionals in the business, then our SSI Instructor Internship is guaranteed to give you a great start in the industry.
Unlike many other scuba instructor internship programs, you won’t be on any of our courses just to increase the student to instructor ratio. You’ll be co-teaching on regular-sized course student groups, making your learning curve (and theirs!) easier.
Our SSI instructor interns work alongside their instructor mentor and are thoroughly involved in all course briefings and debriefings. At first, you will simply observe, which is a great opportunity to pick up pointers for your own briefings, and also start putting together your own lesson plans. You’ll assist in evaluating student skills in both confined and open water, plus you’ll start to teach sections of the course. We’ll build up your teaching role in a logical and organic way, starting perhaps with a few skills in shallow water, leading dives 2 & 3 in open water, and teaching half of the academics. Over time your confidence and abilities will grow, and you’ll be teaching solo before you know it. At which point your mentor becomes your assistant, a great way to graduate!
During our Instructor Internship, you’ll earn approximately 20 student certifications in total, comprising a minimum of 3 full SSI Open Water Diver Courses, 2 SSI Advanced Adventurer Courses, 1 SSI Diver Stress and Rescue Course, 1 SSI Basic Diver Course and any SSI Specialty Courses that are available and you are qualified to teach.
The Internship takes about 4 weeks and costs 20000THB, and comes with a job guarantee somewhere in the Scuba Diving world.
