Over the last decade, a significant percentage of dive centers both on Koh Tao and worldwide have made the switch to SSI, mainly due to its superior teaching models and student-centered course approach, which allows SSI Instructors to better tailor courses to their students’ needs. The SSI philosophy also prioritizes water-based sessions, which means more practical learning and less classroom time. There are currently more positions for SSI Instructors than we can fill, so there are jobs out there waiting for you! After your SSI Instructor Crossover with Big Blue Pro, we are happy to offer you freelance work through Big Blue Diving.
What’s involved?
The course takes 3 to 5 days. Day 1 is in the classroom, familiarizing you with SSI products, SSI philosophy and the SSI approach to teaching and the SCUBA industry. There are some exams, but you will have access to most of the answers in your instructor materials. Day 2 is in the pool, where we show you demonstrations of any scuba skills that are taught differently to your existing agency, then you get a chance to practice until you are comfortable. On day 3, you will assist an SSI Open Water Course with one of our senior instructors, listen to their academic presentations, and observe the pool session. You then have the option to continue until the end of the Open Water Course and observe the full program including the open water dives.
