Another wreck dive on Koh Tao

The Torpedo is another wreck dive on Koh Tao suitable for Technical divers only. It is one of Koh Tao’s better known wrecks for the Thailand Tech diving community! It is a 70 meter Japanese cargo boat which sank in the mid seventies. Rather deceivingly the Torpedo is so called because the cargo of teak logs look like torpedoes, rather than it being a sunken vessel destroyed by one or even carrying one.

She rests about 2 hours north Koh Tao resting upright at 55m depth. She is about 60 meters in length with two large holds and a crane which collapsed onto the deck. For the gutsy among us there are three levels of easy penetration on the stern the engine room, the sleeping quarters and the wheelhouse. It is a bit of a wriggle into the nice big bow compartment, but there are loads of fish here and viz is frequently around 10 m+ at depth, and 30+ above 30m.

It’s also a great place to come across a few traveling ocean dwellers as well like whale sharks and whales which have been encountered usually on the safety stops.

We go out every Wednesday to visit a different wreck dive on Koh Tao so if you want to come with us then drop us a line at Big Blue Tech and check out the variety of Technical Diving Courses we teach.
