Marine life at Hin Pee Wee/Sattakut Wreck...
Located just off the west coast of Koh Tao, Hin Pee Wee and the Sattakut Wreck combine natural reef and large-scale structure into one varied and rewarding dive. Hin Pee Wee is a shallow granite formation beginning around 6–8 meters and sloping to approximately 18 meters, while the nearby Sattakut Wreck rests upright on the sandy seabed with the deck starting at around 18 meters and the sand line sitting close to 30 meters. Together, they create an ideal multi-level profile blending reef exploration with classic wreck atmosphere.
Currents & Conditions
Conditions are generally calm to mild, though light to moderate currents can occasionally run across the wreck and reef. Visibility commonly ranges from 10–25 meters depending on season and plankton levels. Water temperatures remain a steady 27–30°C year-round, though thermoclines can sometimes be noticeable closer to the wreck’s base. On clear days, the Sattakut’s outline appears dramatically from the blue during descent.
Underwater Landscape & Marine Life
Hin Pee Wee offers colourful hard corals, scattered bommies, and sandy channels that host blue-spotted stingrays and macro life. Schools of fusiliers and snapper hover mid-water, while butterflyfish and angelfish move steadily across the reef face. Just a short distance away, the Sattakut Wreck — a former naval vessel intentionally sunk as an artificial reef — rises impressively from the seabed. Barracuda often patrol above the superstructure, trevally dart through bait balls, and groupers shelter beneath overhangs. Moray eels and lionfish are commonly seen within the structure, while the surrounding sand is home to stingrays and gobies. The combination of compact reef and large wreck gives this pairing a dynamic feel — intimate reef detail followed by dramatic steel architecture.
Skill Level & Certification
Best suited to Advanced Open Water divers due to the depth of the Sattakut Wreck. Wreck or deep specialty training is recommended for those wishing to fully appreciate the structure and manage bottom time effectively. Hin Pee Wee itself is suitable for Open Water divers in calm conditions, making the overall pairing accessible while still offering depth for those qualified.
Access & Logistics
Hin Pee Wee and the Sattakut Wreck are regular features on our west coast morning schedule. We meet at 7:20am and depart directly from Sairee Beach via our shuttle boats to our main dive boat. Travel time is short and efficient, keeping the focus on diving. This pairing creates a perfectly balanced two-dive trip — reef first, wreck second — with return to shore around 12:30pm. Natural granite, schooling fish, and a full-scale naval wreck all in one morning.
